Spiti Snow leopard Trail

Snow leopard is generally found in Trans Himalayan range of the Western Himalayas. In Himachal the leopard can be spotted in Kibbar wildlife Sanctuary and Pin valley National park of Spiti valley. Snow leopard has been spotted by locals around Lippa - Asrang Sanctuary of Kinnaur as well.
Snow leopard trail will take you to far faraway and incredibly beautiful regions of Himachal Pradesh, into the very heart of the Western Himalayas. Besides snow leopard Red foxes, Himalayan blue sheep and Himalayan Ibex are easily spotted during the winters.

Itinerary


ITINERARY:
Day 01 : Home city - Shimla
Day 02 : Pick up from Shimla - Kalpa (180 km) Duration: 9-10 hrs hours (Overnight at hotel)
Day 03 Kalpa - Nako - Tabo. Duration: 7-8 hours. (Overnight at homestays)
Day 04 : Tabo- . Kaza - Kibber : 4-5 hours (Overnight at Homestay)
Day's 5,6,7: Kibber / Chichim (In search of the Snow leopard). Days will be flexible depending on our local guides inputs.
Day 8: Kibber - Key Monastery- Reckong Peo.
Day 9: Reckong peo - drop at Shimla.

 

Weather conditions and essentials to carry
It gets really frigid. The temperature often drops to -30 °C. The air in Spiti is very thin due to high altitude and no vegetation so it is advised to see your doctor and take required medication. If you have prior experience of trekking or hiking high altitude terrains then there shouldn't be any problems related to high altitude sickness.In case of heavy snowfall backup 4WD vehicle would be used to evacuate the group to nearest place from where evacuation would be possible.

Backpack (45-70 liter)
Trekking Boots - High ankle support boots.
Down Jacket - Thick, windproof material, fleece and feather based recommended.
Trek Pants - (at least 3 Trek Pants), no Jeans. Synthetic, Quick Dry fabric based Trek Pants are ideal.
Full sleeve woolen/fleece - (at least 2)
Full sleeve T-Shirts - (at least 2)
Thermal Inner - (for Lower body recommended/ upper is optional)
Balaclava
Sunglasses - Is a must for snow hike. UV rated ones.
Handgloves
Socks - (2 pair of woolen and 1 pairs of cotton socks)
Waterbottle - (1-2 liters). Avoid plastic drinking bottles.
Toiletries (Sunscreen - SPF 60+, moisturizer, light towel, lip balm/chap stick, small soap, toilet paper, wet tissue)
Headlamp/LED Torch
Energy bars/dry fruits. Very essential for surviving the winters in Kinnaur & Spiti

  • Cancellations prior to 30 days from the start of the trip — full refund.
  • Cancellation between 30 days and 15 days to the start of the trip — 50% refund.
  • Cancellation less than 15 days to the start of the trip — no refund.

In case of unforeseen weather conditions, government restrictions or any other unavoidable circumstances beyond the control of the host, certain activities during the expedition or the event itself may be cancelled, or there could be change in the itinerary. In such cases, the host will try their best to provide an alternate feasible activity or a voucher will be handed over (in case of cancellation or rescheduling of event) to you. However no refund will be provided for the same.

In case the trip is cancelled by the host for lack of minimum number of people in the batch, you will get a full refund.
