Having a passport is not required, but is much easier as you don’t have to wait or make your trip mates wait upon arrival for making the permits and route permits in the middle of the trip. If you don't have a passport then you will need your voter id card, but it would result in a longer process and effort.
Bhutan has a low crime rate and is generally a safe country. However, as with any international travel, please be aware of your surroundings. Check with your guide about the safe/unsafe areas of town and use caution when traveling alone. Also, always make sure your purse is zipped and wallets are in sealed pockets. In the markets, be vigilant of pick-pockets and distraction scams. The best deterrent is caution and awareness.
We will help you buy a Bhutanese SIM which will have a validity of one month. The call rate to India is 5 rs/min. The internet package can also be activated separately. You can use Indian SIM also if international roaming is activated. However, the call rate will be around 50-70 rs/min for incoming and outgoing both. confirm further with your service provider.
Yes Indian currency works in Bhutan, no need to buy/exchange currency.
It’s best not to wear above the knee skirts to temples. They could potentially deny you entrance. Calf-length skirts will be fine. Shorts and short skirts really aren’t appropriate in Bhutan.
We will share a cell phone number for your guide and tour leader. All of this will be provide shortly before departure.
Amoebas and Giardiasis are especially found in Southeast Asia, Mosquito repellent, cream or lotion is suggested to keep handy to avoid malaria. Necessary medicines like anti diarrhea, antihistamine tablets, anti-nausea tablets (mountain sickness) are advised to carry along with during travel. There are simple clinics through the Bhutan but for major Hospital you’ve to reach Thimpu.
The sale of tobacco goods is prohibited in Bhutan. However smoking is not banned but without an import receipt issued by Department of Revenue and Custom is restricted. Smoking in public place is restricted and taken as illegal act and may even cause penalty of 3 months prison so it is advised to smoke in private places only. Also, Cigarettes/Tobaccos products are commercially banned in Bhutan. If you are a smoker please bring in your own. 300 sticks of Cigarettes and Tobaccos can be imported for personal consumption on paying 200% tax.
If you have patience and humor you will enjoy your trip better in Bhutan. Bhutanese people are laid back and fun loving. Though the hotels we offer to you are of the best standards available in the town approved by the Tourism Council of Bhutan, please do not expect the WIFI to be active all through out. Internet through WIFI would be concern (given our past experience) so do not rely on hotel WIFI. You can instead buy a local SIM and activate internet pack.

In case of unforeseen weather conditions, government restrictions or any other unavoidable circumstances beyond the control of the host, certain activities during the expedition or the event itself may be cancelled, or there could be change in the itinerary. In such cases, the host will try their best to provide an alternate feasible activity or a voucher will be handed over (in case of cancellation or rescheduling of event) to you. However no refund will be provided for the same.

In case the trip is cancelled by the host for lack of minimum number of people in the batch, you will get a full refund.

Arrival In Bhutan

Bagdogra to Phunsholing

Welcome to Bhutan. Upon arrival in Phuntsholing, you will be traditionally greeted by the tour executives from Bhutan Travel+. Today you will do the immigration formalities and see Phuntsholing town including Kharbandi temple and crocodile breeding center and Zangdopelri Park. Phuentsholing is a border town in southern Bhutan and is the administrative seat of Chukha District. It lies opposite the Indian town of Jaigon and cross-border trade has resulted in a thriving local economy. Phuentsholing had a population of 28,000 as of 2017 and has been growing since.

Phuntsholing to Thimphu

153KM 4.5 Hrs Drive

Today, you will do an acclimatizing drive to Thimphu, from 300M foothills up to 2350M inner Himalaya’s region. The Kingdom’s capital city is home to approximately 114,000 inhabitants including the Royal family. This bustling little city is the main center of commerce, religion, and government in the country. The juxtaposition of ancient tradition and modernity make Thimphu the ideal location for visitors to break away from their tour itinerary to immerse themselves in the contemporary Bhutanese lifestyle. Upon reaching Thimphu, you will have your first taste of Bhutanese cuisine and some light sightseeing including Changangkha Temple, Strange looking national animal of Bhutan, Dzong viewpoint and Tashi Chodzong.

Explore Thimphu

Immerse yourself in the Bhutanese Culture.

Today, you will see all the remaining point of interests in Thimphu. Starting off with simply Bhutan live museum where you could get to see the glimpse of cultural and lifestyle demonstration. Drive to the gigantic buddha statue where you can also enjoy the view of the entire Thimphu city. Back to the town, you will see memorial chorten, the art of traditional weaving at textile academy and practices of 13 traditional arts and crafts at Painting school. Check out the nightlife in Thimphu after dinner if interested.

Thimphu to Punakha

Drive to Punakha, Enjoy the panoramic view of Himalayan ranges at Dochula Pass. Punakha has been inextricably linked with momentous occasions in Bhutanese history. It served as the capital of the country from 1637 to 1907 and the first national assembly was hosted here in 1953. Punakha Dzong is not only the second oldest and second largest dzong but it also has one of the most majestic structures in the country. Afternoon you have an option of hiking to Chimi Lhakhang or Khamsum Yulay. Cross over Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge in the evening.

Punakha to Paro

The beautiful valley is home to many of Bhutan’s old monasteries and temples. The country’s only Airport is in Paro. Two prominent places you will see today are Paro Dzong- 15th-century massive fortress currently running as an administrative center of Paro district, and the national museum of Bhutan. Do not miss the night view of these two structures from the bridge below.

Tiger’s Nest Hike

Hike to the most recognised spot in Bhutan

Guru Padmasambhava landed on the back of a tigress in the 8th century and meditated in the cave where tiger’s nest main temple perched now. Today, you will do a hike to the most recognized spot in Bhutan. It will be around 4.5 miles medium level hike with elevation escalation of 900M from Paro Valley. Visit the Kichu Lhakhang- the oldest temple built in the 7th century on return and also drive to drugged dzong to enjoy the view of Mt. Chomolhari.

Paro to Chelela Pass to Phuntsholing

170KM & 4.5Hrs Drive

In the morning, drive to Chelela Pass for 30KM. Located at 3810m (13,000ft), between the valley of Paro and Haa is the highest road pass in the country. Drive through dense spruce and larch forests, you will encounter various sights such as a frozen river, waterfall, rhododendron forest, and yaks grazing peacefully. On a clear day, you can view Mt. Jumolhari(Bhutan's most sacred peak at over 22,000 ft) along with Jichu Drake, as well as the view of both the valley (Paro and Haa). Afternoon drive to Phuntsholing with stopovers at picturesque points.
