Additional Details

  • We need minimum of 7 people to conduct this trip.
  • This trip is only for people within the age group of 18 - 32 Years.
  • We will be travelling in local buses and trains where booking a seat in advance is not an option. It may happen sometimes that we do not get a seat on a public transport, and we have to stand and wait for the seat.
  • We can have triple sharing rooms, so couples, don't expect too much privacy.
  • If you have a problem in sharing room with others, you can let us know and we might be able to work it out.

  • Transport required during the trip after reaching Colombo. (Local buses, Trains, Shared taxis)

Sri Lanka is fast becoming a hub for Backpacker travellers. We will be staying in some amazing hostels where we will meet and interact with travellers from around the world. Being an island country, Sri Lanka's beach game is strong with all sorts of beach activities. You can try surfing, snorkeling, diving or you can even go for whale watching.

We will be using multiple modes of transport for our commute within the country just to give us a real essence of Backpacking. We will take the most scenic train journey from Nuwara Elliya to Ella while traveling in local buses will give us an opportunity to learn more about life in Sri Lanka.
Please note that this is a backpacking trip, we will be staying in Hostels with dormitories. Please do not expect too much privacy. Also, we need to be very punctual about the timings. We cannot afford to miss our bus or train.

DAY 01: Colombo - Sigiriya

Arrive in Colombo by 9 am. You will meet our trip coordinator at the airport. Later we will head towards the ancient city of Sigiriya, which is home to the famous Lion Rock. It is quite a long drive from Colombo to Sigiriya, On the way we will stop by to experience our first taste of traditional Sri Lankan food. We will reach Sigiriya by late evening and check-in to our hostel. We will take a village tour to get some local experience.

DAY 02: Sigiriya - Nuwara Elliya

Today will be an early morning. We will be hiking up to the top of the Lion Rock or the Sigiriya fortress. It is a UNESCO world heritage sight and is referred to by locals as the Eighth Wonder of the World. After hiking back down we will later leave for Nuwara Eliya. En route, we will spend some time in Kandy. Nuwara Eliya, known as the garden city of Asia for its hills, valleys and waterfalls, is 6,182 feet above sea level. In the evening, we will take some time to visit Gregory Lake for sunset & walk around in “Little England”.

DAY 03: Nuwara Elliya - Kandy - Ella

After breakfast at the hostel, we will leave for the hill town of Ella. Ella is a beautiful small backpacker-hub on the southern edge of Sri Lanka's Hill Country. To reach there, we are taking the most scenic train journey in Lanka. No trip is more scenic than the train from Nanu Oya to Ella. After reaching we will visit the temple where Sita was kept, we will visit Ravana caves which connects networks of caves, a 9 arch brick and stone bridge, Ravana waterfall. If interests, we can also take a tour of tea plantation or go on a short hike near by.

DAY 04: Ella - Mirissa

Post breakfast, we will go for a hike to Mini Adam's peak or the Ella rock. Later we will leave for Mirissa. What fun is an island country if we do not enjoy the beach? After the hike and breakfast, we will take a bus journey to the Deep South of Sri Lanka. Mirissa has without doubt the best beach in the country. Once we reach and freshen up, we will head to a little hidden beach where we can soak into the crystal clear blue water. We will take a walk on the beach and watch the most beautiful sunset in the Indian Ocean. Tonight we can enjoy some nightlife by the beach.

DAY 05: Mirissa

Mirissa is famous for its whale watching. If you are interested in watching this big mammal and some dolphins, we need to get up early and reach the harbour by 6 am. Getting to see the largest animal (whales) on earth up close and personal, is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Today we will have a full day to spend at the beach. One can enjoy snorkeling, diving or surfing. You can even try your hands at stilt fishing. Later in the evening, we can visit near by towns.

DAY 06: Mirissa - Hikkaduwa

Today we move to the next beach town, Hikkaduwa. Hikka is one of the most visited beaces in Sri Lanka and is famous for Surfing and nightlife. Visit Hikkaduwa coral gardens. There are coral reefs straight off the beach and turtles are regularly seen in these waters. There is a turtle hatchery where little turtle are hatched and nurtured, one thing we cannot see around many places. Enjoy the night life at various beach bars or cafes.

DAY 07: Hikkaduwa - Colombo

Today, we will leave this beach town and head towards the capital city of Sri Lanka. We take a cool train ride along to coast to reach the capital. Colombo brings together the old and the new. Almost everyone who visits Sri Lanka spends time in this busy city. We will go see some historical places in this age old city, visit some famous markets or we can just spend our last day relaxing in some cafe/bar.

DAY 08: Colombo (Trip Ends today)

After breakfast, We we will bid farewell to our fellow travellers and new friends as we leave this beautiful country and move towards our respective destinations.

What we mean by that is, we will definitely be covering all the major tourist attraction but apart from that, we will try and get as much local experience as we can. We travel using local transport, we try and interact with locals to know more about their country, we stay in backpackers hostels and homestays where we get a chance to meet travellers from around the world, we eat a LOT of local food and drink a LOT of local beer/wine.

We totally understand that unforeseen circumstances might need you to change plans, and so our cancellation policy makes it easier to do that.
  • Cancellations prior to 30 days from the start of the trip — full refund.
  • Cancellation between 30 days and 15 days to the start of the trip — 50% refund.
  • Cancellation less than 15 days to the start of the trip — no refund.

In case of unforeseen weather conditions, government restrictions or any other unavoidable circumstances beyond the control of the host, certain activities during the expedition or the event itself may be cancelled, or there could be change in the itinerary. In such cases, the host will try their best to provide an alternate feasible activity or a voucher will be handed over (in case of cancellation or rescheduling of event) to you. However no refund will be provided for the same.

In case the trip is cancelled by the host for lack of minimum number of people in the batch, you will get a full refund.
