How to reach

The nearest airport to Gangtok is Bagdogra (near Siliguri, West-Bengal). Bagdogra is connected to most major airports of India.

The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), which is a major railway station of the region.

Reaching Gangtok from Bagodgra takes a 4 hour journey pretty much all the time along the beautiful river Teesta. The road is a national highway and is in good condition for a smooth ride. Prepaid taxis run from Bagdogra airport for a cost of ~2500 INR for a small car while ~3000 INR for Innova. For a shared taxi to Gangtok, you will need to walk to the shared taxi stand just outside of the airport and first take a shared taxi to Siliguri (~10 kms). From Siliguri frequent taxis run to Gangtok (INR 200) leaving from SNT terminal starting at about 6 in the morning. Multiple buses in the earlier half of the day depart SNT terminal at Siliguri for Gangtok.
