This saint preached and spread Islam in Lakshadweep, which is why, more than 90% of the population here is Muslim.

Sheikh Ubaidullah propelled Islam in Lakshadweep Islands by delivering sermons before the islanders. Apparently, the saint died at Andrott Island with his remains buried in Jumah Mosque. His grave is religiously revered by the people. The saint was successful in spreading Islam in the islands through his preachings and therefore Lakshadweep now has 90% Muslim population.
Most of this population includes members of the Shafi School of Sunni cult. Festivals like Eid-ul-Fitr, Muharram, Eid-ul-Adha, and Milad-un-Nabi are prominently celebrated here. On these occasions, one can see a huge gathering in the mosques.
The unusual festival, Ratheeb that has its foundation in the Kavaratti area of Lakshadweep, is also celebrated here. On this occasion, it is said that people pay their respect to Sheikh Kasim in order to receive his blessings.
