The chief command given to the Sikhs about keeping 5 articles (5 Ks) was issued by ______________.
- Guru Nanak
- Guru Tegh Bahadur
- Guru Gobind Singh
Guru Gobind Singh
Guru Gobind Singh was 10th and the last Guru who, in order to preach his disciples about various edicts, summoned them in Anandpur (North Indian state of Punjab) on the occasion of Baisakhi in April 1699. Here, he established the Khalsa (sisterhood and brotherhood of Amritdhari Sikhs). The commandments issued by the Guru formed the Sikhism we have been seeing till date.
One amongst the various edicts that he preached was that about the maintenance of 5 articles of faith. Each article starts with 'K' alphabet of the Punjabi language — Kesh (hair should never be cut and must be covered by a turban); Kara (a steel bracelet that represents power and honour); Kirpan (a sacred sword that signifies martial strength); Kacchera (cotton undergarment that symbolises chastity and preparedness for battle); and Kanga (wooden comb to maintain hair and symbolic of neatness and organization).
