Indian Elephant is the state animal of Karnataka. Karnataka is a home to around one-fourth of the elephant population and one-fifth of the tiger population of India both of which are endangered according to the IUCN red list. The state boasts of the maximum population of both mammals in the country.

Karnataka is a treat for the wildlife lovers. The state is a host to 11 bird sanctuaries and 18 wildlife sanctuaries. It also contains the following national parks:
