Umiam Lake, commonly known as Bara Pani, was created by damming the Umiam River in the early 1960’s as a part of the first Hydel Power Project of Meghalaya. It is a prominent destination for kayaking, boating and other water activities. The Lake looks extremely beautiful due to the small islands that are formed in the middle due to the hilly topography. It is spread over 10 sq km and is the largest artificial lake of Meghalaya.
