Dawki is a small busy town, situated on the banks of the Umngot River, near the Indo-Bangladesh border. Dawki is known for the clear water of the Umngot River, and the Dawki suspension bridge. The water is so clear that you can literally see the bottom of the river even from the Dawki bridge. The boats appear to be floating in the air, and one can actually see the shadow of the boat on the river bed. Umngot River is definitely one of the cleanest rivers of India.
Apart from fishing and agriculture, the economy of Dawki is dependent on its coal mines and limestone exports. Shnongpdeng village, around 8 km from the main town of Dawki, is a great option to enjoy the serene waters without the hustle-bustle of the main town.
