Which of these is a Rajasthani cuisine?
- Litti Chokha
- Ker Sangri
Ker Sangri is a Rajasthani delicacy made from Ker (a berry) and Sangri (a bean), both of which grow in the Thar desert in Rajasthan. It is a spicy cuisine and is generally served dry, or as a pickle. Khejri, the tree on which Sangri grows, is the state tree of Rajasthan. According to popular folklore, Ker and Sangri were discovered during a drought when the villagers couldn't find anything to eat.
In 1731 AD, the king of Marwar had ordered the felling of Khejri trees in Khejarli village for the construction of a new palace. The villagers began hugging the trees because they considered them sacred and 363 Bishnois sacrificed their lives before the king stopped his orders. This incident is said to have inspired the Chipko Movement of the 20th century.
