__________ is an open trading border post at the old Silk Road between India and China.
- Jelep La
- Nathu La
- Dongkha La
In Tibet, "Nathu" stands for "listening ears" while "La" means "pass". Nathu La is one of the prominent open trading stations at the border of India and China apart from Shipki La (Himachal Pradesh) and Lipulekh (trisection point of Uttarakhand, Nepal, and China). This mountain pass can be found in the East Sikkim district, 4,310 m above the average sea level and is a part of the offshoot of old Silk Road. As a result of Sino-Indian War, the pass was sealed by India in 1962 but was reopened during 2006 owing to a number of bilateral trade agreements.
Nathu La Pass plays a pivotal role in the development of Sino-Indian trade, as it has shortened the distance between two countries.
