Khecheopalri Lake, also known as the wishing lake is located near the Khecheopalri Village about 150 km from Gangtok. The lake looks like a giant feet when seen from an elevated point due to its elongated shape.
The lake is considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhist followers. Hindus believe it to be a footprint of Lord Shiva and Buddhists believe that its the footprint of Goddess Tara. According to the popular folklore, leaves aren’t allowed in the lake due to its divine power, and thus its said that whenever a leaf falls into the lake some bird picks it up.
