While driving to Spiti in winters, it is advisable to take the ____________ route.
The most frequently taken routes to Spiti Valley are from Shimla and Manali. The Shimla route is at a stretch of 450 km, while the Manali route is only 201 km long. Shimla route gains the high altitudes slowly. The Manali route is short and takes much lesser time to gain the high altitudes because of the easy access to Rohtang Pass and Kunzum Pass, hence can lead to ASM (Acute Mounting Sickness). Therefore, it is always recommended to take the Shimla route while traveling with senior citizens or infants.
Moreover, during the winters, both the passes are closed from Mid October to Mid June. Hence, the only choice the travelers have is to take the Shimla Route to ensure an uninterrupted drive.
