Nanda Devi Raj Jat is a three week long festival organised once in every 12 years to worship Goddess Nanda Devi. During the festival, devotees undertake a very long trek spanning close to 280 km. The trek starts from Nauti Village of Chamoli district and ends at Roopkund.
The last Nanda Devi Raj Jat was supposed to happen in 2013. The yatra was cancelled and postponed to 2014 due to the heavy rains and cloudburst in June 2013 which had led to more than 5000 casualities. The Yatra finally took place from 18 August 2014 to 6 September 2014.
