Gangotri national Park is one of the largest national parks in India with an area of about 2400 sq km. The park is home to a very large amount of fauna including 150 bird species, snow leopards, ibex, tahrs and asiatic black bears. The ideal time to visit the park is around October and provides for an excellent mix of shrubby meadows and glacial peaks.

Nanda Devi and the Valley of Flower National Parks is an internationally renowned biosphere reserve under the UNESCO list. The Valley of Flowers has special reverence among Hindu mystics and has been used as a site of meditation for centuries. Valley of Flowers has gained prominence as a place of reputable alpine flora with many local flowers which appear to change their shade as time progresses. The best time to visit the valley is from July to Early September, right after the monsoon showers in the area. The trek is about 11kms long and starts from Joshimath. All visitors to the park must obtain a permit from the Forest Department to enter the area.
