Jim Corbett was a hunter and a naturalist who held the rank of Colonel in the British Indian Army. He was frequently called upon the governance of the Kumaon and Uttar Pradesh regions to come and kill the tigers inflicting terrors on local villagers. In his later years, Jim Corbett worked towards the conservation of the endangered Bengal tigers and led to the creation of India's first national park which was then called Hailey's national park. The park was later renamed to Jim Corbett national park in his honour.
