The Great Banyan, the largest banyan tree in the world, is located in the city of ___________.
The Great Banyan, the largest banyan tree in the world, is located in Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden in the city of Howrah, West Bengal. It is considered to be over 250 years old and covers a total area of about 14,500 square meters. It is also considered as the widest tree in the world.
From a distance, the Banyan tree seems to have an appearance of that of a forest because of its 3600 aerial roots. The tree suffered a fungal attack in the 19th century, after two cyclones had hit it, due to which the main trunk of the tree had to be removed. The tree draws more visitors to the garden than the collection of exotic plant species from five continents.
