Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali polymath, who was a musician, poet and an artist. He was the author of “Gitanjali” for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. He reshaped the Bengali Literature through his modern art, poems and music. Rabindra Sangeet is played during all cultural programs in Bengal.
Jorasanko Thakur Bari located in Jorasanko, north Kolkata is the ancestral home of the Tagore family. It now lies in the grounds of Rabindra Bharati University campus. The first non-European Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore was born here and had also passed away. This 18th-century structure has been restored to reflect the life of the Tagore family. It now is being used as Tagore museum. The Rabindra Bharati University organizes a festival of arts known as Aban Mela.
